Palestiane enraged Israeli minister visit Al Aqsa mosque compound

I-T A-M A-R B-E N G V-I R, Israel's new far-right national security minister, made a brief visit to the Jerusalem compound of the Al-Aqsa mosque on Tuesday. Jews also revere this location, which drew strong condemnation from Palestinians and several Arab nations.

"The Sanctuary Mount is available to all", B-E N G V-I R said on Twitter, involving the Jewish name for the site.

He was captured on video strolling around the perimeter of the compound, flanked by a fellow Orthodox Jew and surrounded by a large security force.

According to an Israeli official, the 15-minute visit by B-E N G V-I R, a high-ranking member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's nationalist-religious cabinet, was in accordance with a so-called "status quo" arrangement from decades ago that allows non-Muslims to visit provided they do not pray. He stayed away from the mosque.

Although the visit went off without a hitch, it runs the risk of escalating tensions with Palestinians, which have been high for the past year due to an increase in violence in the occupied West Bank.

Mohammad Shtayyeh, the Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority, urged Palestinians to "confront the raids into A-l A-Q S-A mosque." He said that B-E N G V-I R planned the visit to make the shrine "into a Jewish temple," and he was right.

Israel denies having plans like that. B-E N G V-I R once advocated lifting the ban on Jewish prayer at the site, but since joining Netanyahu, he has been less vocal on the subject. His Jewish Power party's other members continue to support such a move.

The rise of B-E N G V-I R in Netanyahu's government, which is one of the most right-wing governments in Israel's history, has increased Palestinian resentment over their long-term attempts to establish a state.

Medical professionals and witnesses claimed that, just hours before the visit, Israeli forces shot and killed a Palestinian teenager in nearby Bethlehem. This was the latest in a growing number of deaths in the West Bank.

According to Israel's military, Palestinians threw improvised explosive devices, rocks, and firebombs at the troops, who fired on them.

A representative for Hamas, a Palestinian gathering that rejects concurrence with Israel and which controls Gaza, said of B-E N G V-I R visit: All parties will be closer to a big fight if this behavior continues

Bleak outlook

The embassy said in a statement that Thomas N-I D-E S, the US ambassador to Israel, "has been very clear in conversations with the Israeli government on the issue of preserving the status quo in Jerusalem's holy sites".

It added that "actions that prevent that are unacceptable" without going into further detail. Jordan, the caretaker of A-l A-Q S-A and whose harmony manages Israel is disliked at home, condemned the visit, saying it had abused global regulation and "the noteworthy and legitimate norm in Jerusalem".

The visit was also condemned by Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, two of the few Arab states that have recognized Israel. B-E N G V I-R actions were also criticized by Saudi Arabia, with whom Netanyahu wants to reach a peace agreement. Islam's third-holiest site is the A-L A-Q S-A compound, also known as the Noble Sanctuary to Muslims.

To commemorate the Babylonian siege of the first of these temples in the 6th century BC, pious Jews fasted on Tuesday. The compound in East Jerusalem is where Palestinians want a future state with the West Bank and Gaza Strip as its capital
