Google Play Store services to continue in Pakistan

The Ministry of Finance has agreed to release blocked payments to international service providers, including Google. This will stop the Google Play Store from suspending paid services in Pakistan.

Aminul Haque, Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunications, made this statement while speaking to the media about his meeting with relevant authorities.

After news broke that users in Pakistan wouldn't be able to use paid services from the Google Play Store starting on December 1 due to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) blocking $34 million in payments to international service providers by suspending the direct carrier billing (DCB) mechanism, the minister jumped into action. Later, media reports that held some Google payments back were "baseless and misleading", according to the central bank.

Due to Telcos' violations, the SBP explained that it had taken some measures to assist domestic entities.

According to Mr Haque, the finance ministry had instructed the SBP to make payments to service providers in accordance with the schedule. Additionally, the central bank has been instructed to postpone for one month the most recent Google Play Store payment policy.

According to him, the SBP's instructions had given telecom providers a month to implement the new payment method.
