Russia has lost its soft power’: how war in Ukraine destabilises old Soviet allies

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has had a significant impact on Russia's soft power and its relationships with old Soviet allies. Russia's annexation of Crimea and its support for separatists in eastern Ukraine have been viewed negatively by the international community, leading to sanctions and a loss of trust in Russia as a reliable partner. This has been particularly evident in former Soviet states like Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine, where there has been a shift towards closer ties with the West. The conflict has also highlighted Russia's authoritarian tendencies, making it more difficult for the country to promote its political and economic model to other nations. Overall, the war in Ukraine has significantly weakened Russia's soft power and its influence in the region.
